World Cup: A Quick Nation By Nation Preview- Group A

4 years on from the annoying Vuvuzelas, Siphiwe Tshabalala lighting up the hearts of many people, England's disappointment (Again!!) and Spain adding to their 2008 European Championships title, we go home! Home to Brazil for this year's World Cup. And boy, do we expect a lot! We've had great controversy in Brazil surrounding the nations decision to host a World Cup when many people are suffering from severe poverty, but from this point on- a lot of Brazil will be enthralled to see what spectacle their nation manages to produce. We expect goals, penalties and ultimately: More disappointment for England. As an Irish man, a quick note must be made on our absence as I inform the world: We'll be back! Now, let's not dwell on Ireland and move into the "real countries" who actually qualified for the tournament.

Group A:
Brazil:
Key Player: Thiago Silva
Okay, when people think of Brazil they think of the attacking flair of Neymar, Hulk, Oscar and Willian, but I'm going to say: If "Big Phil" utilises the defensive solidity that this era of Brazilians have, they will be a formidable force in this year's World Cup. Whilst David Luiz has recently completed a huge move to PSG, I fancy his new team mate at PSG, Thiago Silva to be the defender to excel in this competition. His organisational, leadership and marking skills are comparable with any defender in the world and I think he has a great chance of winning the Player of the Tournament.

We'll All Have Our Eyes On: Neymar Jr.
Well, who else would we watch Brazil for? Following his move to Barcelona, I, even as a huge Neymar fan, must admit that his performances have not been any better than average by his standards. But, Neymar may have fallen victim to high expectations in his first season out of Brazil, as has happened to players like Robinho in the past. But one thing is for sure, when Neymar plays for Brazil, he's a completely different player. His flicks are just a topping on the efficiency that Neymar usually provides for Brazil. Watch out everybody, Neymar will take this world cup by a storm.

Croatia:
Key Player: Luka Modric
What a year this guy has had. Coming 3rd in La Liga was a low point in what was an excellent season. Winning both Copa Del Rey and the Champions League, Luka Modric was instrumental in what was the season that many Madrid fans had dreamed of this time last year. Quite small in stature, the influence Modric imposes on a game is far beyond that of many other midfielders around Europe. Croatia have floated somewhat under the radar, but should other groups go their way, let's not write Modric and co. making it very far. But, we may not recognise Modric initially since he chopped off his wavy locks after Madrid's success, but given time, we'll recognise his incredible technique on the ball and clever positioning off it.

Wanted Man: Ivan Rakitic
With rumours circulating that Rakitic's deal to Barcelona is all but announced, we expect a lot of eyes to be on Sevilla's star man this summer. Having been heavily linked with moves to Real Madrid and the Premier League this summer, there will be pressure on Rakitic to deliver the performances he managed in Sevilla's Europa League winning campaign this season. I've spent a lot of time raving about Rakitic on Twitter this season, but this man will fit in seamlessly at Barcelona as he has wonderful set pieces, passing, crossing and a wicked shot. Will take Premier League fans who don't watch La Liga by a huge surprise.

Cameroon:
Key Player: Alex Song
Not the first name that people think of anymore in Cameroon following his last couple of seasons at Barcelona, but one thing is for sure, Alex Song will be the base to any success that Cameroon manage in this World Cup. Going in as underdogs into this group, the pressure will well and truly be on Cameroon's opponents, but their side is nothing to be laughed at. Song, who plays better in Defensive midfield than Centre back will be under enormous pressure to ensure that the Cameroonian defence is not left exposed.

What age is he? Samuel Eto'o
Let's be honest, Mourinho's digs at Eto'o (off the record, but got leaked) regarding his age, that unintentionally sparked a remarkable revival in the form of the Chelsea star's form, were nothing more than hilarious. But, with recent celebrations, where Eto'o pretends to be an old man with back problems, for Chelsea and vs Germany for Cameroon, these comments obviously haven't been forgotten by Eto'o. Many would consider him the Key to Cameroon's success and I can see why, but I'm unsure whether he will reach his best form at this tournament. Rumoured to be leaving Chelsea, Eto'o will be keen to impress potential suitors in this tournament. Definitely one that many scouts will be watching.

Young Star: Fabrice Olinga
Going into this tournament, Olinga, who is only 18, will be in the shadow of Samuel Eto'o, but this kid is one who could shake up this tournament. He enters the tournament as the youngest player and with very few people knowing about him, Malaga's Olinga (who spent last season out on loan) could come as a surprise package. Although I haven't seen much of him (I can't lie), Football Manager attributes suggest that Olinga is a player to watch for in the future too. I'll get criticised for the value I place on Football Manager attributes, but these people know more than me (A 17 year old blogger with very few contacts in football) and more than likely you (if you're reading my blog- no offence!)

Mexico:
Key Player: Javier Hernandez
The "Little Pea" has spent a lot of time on the bench this past season for Manchester United and this rustiness may effect his performances this summer. With rumours circulating that he may be sought after by lots of top clubs in Europe, we'll get a very enthusiastic Chicharito in this tournament. Having been exiled from the squad for Mexico's playoff vs New Zealand to qualify for this tournament, Hernandez will be keen to show why he's been reinstated in this squad. Expect him to get a few goals, but he will not be a contender for top goal scorer.

Forever Underachieving: Giovani Dos Santos
The talent that always seems to underwhelm, Giovani will be expected to arrive with strong performances in Brazil this summer. Small in size, but very quick and an excellent dribbler, should the winger hit his top form, he may surprise those who've began to write off his career. Let's hope we finally get to see the best of a star who's career has been on a low ever since his move to Tottenham. Should he have a good run of games and play well, who knows, we may see his return to the Premier League some time soon, but I wouldn't be too hopeful.

Prediction:
The world expects Brazil to dominate this group and I can't help but join the huge numbers of people who expect this. I don't see Mexico making it easy for Brazil, when the two meet, but I expect Brazil to overcome the challenge. The opening fixture vs Croatia is a spectacle that nobody should miss out on. I expect Croatia to scrape through in second place and Cameroon, who have avoided expectations, should prove a stern test for all sides in the group. I expect Brazil first, Croatia second, Cameroon third and Mexico to finish fourth in this group.

GROUP B TO COME SOON!
